With heavy hearts we announce Don’s passing suddenly on Tuesday August 23, 2016 at the age of 73 years.
Loved and cherished husband, father and grandfather. Beloved husband and friend of Donna for 52 years. Very special Dad to Gregory (Julie), Shawn (Melissa) and predeceased by infant daughter Carol Ann and by son Scott Patterson (Tracy).
Poppy was grandfather to five special grandchildren Kelsey,(Alberta), Carley (Ottawa), Taylor and William (North Bay) and Lydia of Pembroke.
Sister in law to Winona Ferneyhough (late Keith) of Sudbury. Brother in law to Daniel Sharpe of Williamsburg.
Predeceased by parents William and Margaret Patterson and brothers Gary and Grant (Marian). Also by Elwood and Evelyn Sharpe.
Don was born in Galt in 1942 and returned to Pembroke at the age of 5 and continued his education there. He was a keen sportsman who loved to compete in any and all sports, and excelled in most, especially hockey, canoeing, fishing, tennis and mostly curling and golf. He married Donna in 1964 and they went on to have 4 children they grew up with. After working 12 hour days and building and bringing 7 franchises to Pembroke, he retired in 1995 and spent the winters in Florida, and most recent being in Lake Ashton which he loved.
He loved life and you could hear his laughter from afar. He had a very positive outlook and there was nothing he was afraid to try. There are no words to ease the pain in our hearts.
Friends and family are invited to attend a service to celebrate Don’s life on Sunday afternoon August 28, 2016 at 2 o’clock in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Renfrew Street, Pembroke. A celebration of Don’s life will follow at the Pembroke Curling Club 428 Herbert Street, Pembroke, after 3 o’clock. In memory of Don, donations may be made to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute or the charity of your choice. Arrangements in care of the MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, Pembroke.
