1937 – 2017
Mr. David Earl ‘Dave’ Lightbown, beloved husband of Mrs. Patricia Lightbown of Red Deer, Alberta, formerly of Eckville, Alberta, passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Monday, January 30, 2017 at the age of 79 years. Dave was born on February 11, 1937 at Red Deer, and was raised in Red Deer, Diamond Valley, Alberta, and Matsqui, British Columbia. Dave lived in Eckville until moving to Red Deer in 2008. He graduated from Abbotsford High School in 1956; and worked for numerous trucking companies before joining his brother, Bud in starting Lightbown Bros. Trucking at Eckville in 1961. In 1973, Dave bought his brother’s shares in the company and ran the trucks until 1976. His next venture was starting at a Texaco Oil Plant north of Eckville. In 1980, he joined Quasar, as a lease operator. He finished contract operating in 2006, ending with Husky. Dave will be lovingly remembered by his wife of fifty-four years, Pat Lightbown of Red Deer; two sons, Kerry David (Nancy) of Lacombe, and Keith Ronald (Pam) of Carstairs; two daughters, Julie Patricia Feragen (Trevor) of Ponoka, and Heather Fay Lightbown of Guadalajara, Mexico; and seven grandchildren. He will also be sadly missed by his sister, Darline Klatt of Sylvan Lake, two sisters-in-law, Kit Lightbown of Sylvan Lake and Janet Lightbown of Eckville; as well as numerous other relatives and dear friends. Dave was predeceased by his father, Max, his mother, Margaret, two brothers, Ed and Bud, a sister, Lillian, an infant sister, a son, Leslie, and a granddaughter, Emily. A Memorial Service to honor Dave’s Life will be held at the Eckville Community Centre, 5305 – 52 Street, Eckville, Alberta on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with The Reverend Sandra Franklin-Law officiating. A private family graveside service was held at the Eckville Cemetery. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta.
