Dan Allan MacQuarrie
1953-2016
MacQUARRIE, Dan Allan- Age 63, Port Hastings. It is with
heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a much loved brother,
uncle, cousin, comrade and friend, on Tuesday, November 8, 2016, at
home.
Born in Antigonish, he was a son of the late George Allen and
Sarah «Sadie» Catherine (MacLean) MacQuarrie. Dan is
survived by his sisters, Muriel (Willard) MacDonald; Julia (late
Murdo) MacKinnon; Margie (Ronnie) Proctor and brother, Darrell (Trish)
MacQuarrie and their families. He was predeceased by brother, James;
infant brother, John.
Although Dan never married, his nieces, nephews, cousins and
neighbours were his children and they loved him as he loved them. Dan
graduated from Canso Regional Vocational School in 1972. He was a
skilled mechanic who repaired many a vehicle for family, friends and
neighbours. He was never more than a phone call away, whether you were
stranded roadside, in the ditch or just needed a friend.
«Dapper Dan» as he was fondly called, was a well
respected and active member of The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 43,
Port Hawkesbury.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m.
Saturday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Memorial
service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. from St. David’s
United Church, Port Hastings with Nan Corrigan DM officiating. A
private family burial will take place at a later date. Memorial
donations to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 43 Port Hawkesbury
would be much appreciated. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the
family at www.haverstocks.com
