1922-2017
Clifford F. Taylor, 94, of Harvey Station, NB passed away on April 2,
2017 in New Jersey, USA. Born in Minotola, New Jersey, Clifford was
the son of Harry and Lila (Schaser) Taylor. He was predeceased by his
wife of 51 years, Josephine (Tarin) Taylor in 1995.
After graduating from Woodstown High School, Clifford joined the Army
Air Force and became a tail gunner, flying sixty one combat missions
during World War II. He continued to fly combat missions even after
completing his military obligation, and eventually earned the
Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Ribbon with six Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct
Medal, the Air Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Philippine
Liberation Ribbon. Clifford later owned and operated two service
stations in South Jersey, a repair shop, and sold pickup caps and
campers. In addition to spending time with his family, Mr. Taylor
enjoyed playing baseball, pool, pinocle, bowling and woodworking. He
was proud and honored to have served his country and was active in the
Franklinville VFW Post 2071, where he eventually served as Commander.
In 1975 he retired to Harvey Station, NB where he became a hunting
guide and enjoyed making clocks, desks and other fine woodworking
products in his free time.
Clifford’s life history was recorded and is on file at the
Library of Congress. He was a longtime member of the Porchtown
Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife Pauline (Langley), his children, Diane
Vassalio (Ron) and Janet Taylor-Hyde (Jack); his grandchildren, Diane
Trace, Ron Vassallo, Joanna Vassalio, Leah Vassallo, Andrew Vassallo
(Jessica), Michael Vassallo (Sarah) and Daniel Vassallo (Becca); great
grandchildren, Domenica, Cecelia, Taylor, Carole, Josh, Gemma, Andrew,
Converse, Michael, Sarah and Maria as well as numerous nieces and
nephews. In addition to his parents and first wife, he was
predeceased by siblings Mary Emma Carter, Blanche Davis, Edward,
Harry, Charles and Louis Taylor.
A funeral service will be held in Harvey Station, NB at a day and time
to be announced when final arrangements have been completed.
