Clarence MacKinnon, 60
St. Margaret’s Village
It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Dad, husband, brother and grandfather. Clarence passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2016, at home, surrounded by his loving family, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Black Point on June 23, 1956, he was the son of the late John David and Margaret Ann (Bonnar) MacKinnon.
Clarence worked most of his life as a fisherman. He loved out on the water, and took pride in his lobster gear. He always enjoyed chatting with the other fishermen and the workers at the Co-op fish plant. He loved to hunt moose and deer, his drives to Money Point with the grandkids, laughing and telling hunting stories, and listening to old George Jones music. But the true love of his life was his family. They always came before anything else. Trips to the Big Lake camping, telling ghost stories by the campfire, and trips to Tatamagouche hunting with his brother. Time spent in Antigonish with friends.
Clarence is survived by his wife Norma (Hines) MacKinnon, and his three daughters; Amy (Norman), Blaze Rd., Cindy (Duane), New Victoria, and Carla (Joseph), St. Margaret’s Village. Also left to mourn are his ten grandchildren, whom he loved dearly; Precious, Shania, Wild, Shakira, Robert, Carli, Marisa, Preston, Ciara and Hunter, brothers Duncan, David (Helen), and Malcolm, all of St. Margaret’s Village, and Oliver (Delores), Dingwall, sisters Florence (Stephen) Cummings, River Denys, and Johnenna MacKinnon, and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind good friends John Wallace, Bernard and the Falkinham boys.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Freddie, Archie and Clayton, a sister Colleen, and a brother in infancy.
We would like to thank everyone who helped Dad and us during this terrible time. A special thank you to Dr. John Jenson, the staff at the cancer centre, palliative care, Dr. Ritter, Wanda Barron, the doctors and staff at Buchanan Memorial Hospital, home care, and a special thank you to Abbigail and Patricia Fricker for being there on that terrible day to help us through. To anyone else who helped out at our time of need, thank you.
In keeping with Clarence’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service. Cremation has taken place under the care of J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Donations in Clarence’s memory may be made to the cancer centre. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
We’ll always love you, Dad
Each day you strived to live
Your body too weak to be
Your love will live forever
Since your heart has set you free
Now you walk so bravely
You feel pain no more
Angels have come to guide you
And bring you to Heaven’s door
Memories we hold so dearly
Your smile still warms our hearts
And through our lives you’ll live
And you said “Don’t be sad”
Please believe you were no burden
Our lives have changed forever
The day you passed away
In Heaven you’ll be waiting
To meet us again someday.
Good bye, Pa
We will remember you.
