Obituary of Claire Davidson
DAVIDSON, Claire Theresa, 1949 – 2017
Well, time has now come, that I can be quiet for more than a minute. Remember I am the quiet one and shy! Oh Yeah! Right.
Claire passed away peacefully at the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice on Thursday, December 28, 2017, free of pain and with family and friends by her side. She has gone home to join her dad Jerry (1966), mom Ola (1979) and brother Gerald (2014). Left to mourn are her sister Sheila of Hagersville, brother Brian (Sue) of St. Williams, brother Erle (Helen) of Hagersville, dear aunt Anne Shields of Victoria, BC and my 2 kids, Duchess and Bobby (my 4 footed pets, plus bosses). Dear aunt and great-aunt to several nieces and nephews. Joined Hamilton Wentworth Regional Police as a civilian in records from 1968-1978. In 1979, was the first female hired for outside sales rep in Canada for the welding industry (Carter Welding). After 16 years as a sales rep on the road, moved on to become store manager and later to Northern Ontario to customer service at Parkway Nissan as a sales rep. Could have brought a new car home if only I had room to park them. Then Peoples Jewellery at Centre Mall. Down fall – loved jewellery. Oh! Oh! Value of my knickknacks was more than I paid for my house. Actually was! Retired only 3 times till I joined Frank’s No Frills as a friendly cashier. They are not staff, but extended family. Another Oh Yeah! Left customers laughing, smiling and kibitzing with next customer. Loved the little ones. See that’s a smile not a burp. No, we don’t bag, but listen I’ve been seen on camera – so many times – what’s one more time. Claire volunteered as a juvenile probation officer, joined HMCS Star Naval Reserve, volunteered at St. Peter’s Hospital and Arbour Creek. Besides golf and cards, came up with new saying “how about over the hill for a free coffee”. Ended at Flamboro Casino. Awards of achievement include Trios College 2008-2009, had to prove I could pass with effort and pride, honours and faculty award. Wow! Age 60 and still had it. 1973- shy- yeah right. Look who I’m standing beside – Liberace. Purchase first house, swore I would never plant flowers, must have used miracle grow. Claire may be gone, but her legacy left. Say hello and smile to a stranger whether on the street or especially in nursing homes. You may have just made their day and the biggest reward, the return smile and hello. Leave negativity behind. Be a “participant in life, not just a spectator”. Friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Funeral Service at 11 a.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Janet Kennedy. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In Claire’s memory, donations to the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice would be appreciated. Notes of sympathy and condolence may be left at www.donaldvbrown.ca.
Well, I’m now quiet in voice, but somehow may get the last word in.
