Christopher Stanbury

Christopher, age 70, passed away peacefully at the Vancouver Hospice Society, Granville St., on Thursday, April 6, 2017. His family was by his side.
Christopher is lovingly survived by his son, Roland (Veerle Haegbaert) of Bruges, Belgium; Priscilla Stanbury (Roland’s Mother); and brother-in-law, Robert Spankie of Vancouver. He is also survived by 5 siblings: Penelope Russell, Michael, and Lindita (Charles) Walker of Halifax; Bruce (Colleen) of Melbourne, Australia; Norman Nicholas of Toronto; many nieces, nephews and extended family; and former wife Asifa Bhatia, Surrey.
Christopher was born in Halifax, NS in 1947, attended Kings College School in Windsor, NS and obtained a Degree in Fine Arts at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD). With an interest in graphic arts, his work led him to continue study at the London College of Printing in London, England and to continue his career there for the next 20 years.
Work for the Canadian High Commission led to projects in Saudi Arabia and to 10 years producing the publication Canada Today/d’aujourd’hui. As well, he enjoyed designing plans, networks, and timetables for 38 cities for the National Bus Company and also the London Transport Design Network.
Always interested in Highland Dancing, Christopher loved taking lessons. Then when he married Priscilla Spankie of Vancouver, as Christopher used to say, « Saturday house cleaning took priority over dancing. » After his son, Roland was born in England, the family returned to Vancouver in 1993.
Christopher was a generous and social man. Everywhere he went came with meeting new people and making friends. He always had memorable stories to tell and gravitated to people who would listen to him. They were always glad they did and this became his endearing quality. He also was the total artist – drawing and painting in every medium.
As well as dancing, singing, and walking, Christopher specialized in selling his House Portraits to help support his passions. His Vancouver associations included: the St. Augustine’s Catholic Church Choir, the Vancouver Welsh Men’s Choir, the Gospelboys, and the Society of the Honourable Guard.
A heartfelt thank you to all at the BC Cancer Clinic and the Vancouver Hospice Society.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Augustine’s Church, 2028 West 7th Ave. Vancouver on Tuesday, April 11, at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Kidney Foundation of BC, the BC Cancer Foundation or the charity of your choice.

Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Christopher
