Obituary for Charles Colquhoun
COLQUHOUN: Charles « Clare » Colquhoun passed away on October 8, 2016 at the Assiniboine Centre, Brandon, MB after losing his eight year battle with cancer. Clare was born on October 18, 1939 in McAuley, Manitoba to Charlie and Verna Colquhoun. The family moved to Brandon in 1948. He married Dorothy Ann Bolton on August 22, 1959. Clare leaves behind his wife of 57 years Dorothy; sons Cory (Karen), Darren (Maurie), daughter-in-law Melanie; grandsons Bryce, Jarod and Tyler; his sisters Shirley (Bill), Velda (Al), sisters-in-law Darlene, Irene (Bill), Sherran (Ken), Shirley (Jim), brother-in-law Frank. Clare was predeceased by his son Kelvin, his parents, Dorothy’s parents, his brother Keith, his brother-in-law Keith, and sisters-in-law Ruth and Lorraine. Clare worked for Manitoba Hydro from 1957 until 1974. While at Hydro, he and Dorothy lived in Brandon, Selkirk, Grand Rapids, Winnipeg and Gilliam. In 1974 they moved back to Brandon and he began working for Simplot Canada until his retirement in 1994. Clare also ventured into other businesses. Along with Dorothy and Cory he operated a Yogen Fruz from 1989 to 1992. Clare enjoyed carpentry and woodworking which he used to build numerous garages, decks, kitchen cupboards, furniture, poker tables, bird houses and funeral urns. He also did some bookkeeping and taxes. Clare had a great love of life and sports. Summer days were spent on the golf course; fall and winter he could be found at the curling rink. If Clare wasn’t playing sports he was watching them on TV, especially his beloved Blue Jays. Many Friday nights the Colquhoun family would play poker, sometimes all night. Dorothy and her family would like to thank all of the staff in Palliative Care at the Assiniboine Centre, Brandon General on 400 and Intensive Care, along with Cancer Care for all of the wonderful care and compassion that Clare received while in hospital as well as during treatments. Please join us to celebrate Clare’s life at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Saturday October 15th, 2016 at 2:30 pm. Funeral Celebrant, Lydia Glawson will officiate. A reception will follow at Memories Chapel. In lieu of flowers donations can be directed to the Kelvin Colquhoun Physics Scholarship at Brandon University, 270 18th Street Brandon, MB R7A 6A9 or to Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation for Western Manitoba Cancer Centre, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 2B3.
