Charles Martin

Martin; Charles
Born Charles (Charlie, Chum) Martin on April 26, 1932 in East Whitby, Ontario, Charlie passed away at Brampton Civic Hospital on November 14, 2016. Charlie has gone ahead to be with his first wife Marie, deceased on June 9, 1988. He leaves behind his beloved wife Etheleen, son Tim (Louise), daughter Terry Gallagher, step-sons Rick (Gina Forsyth), Grant (Heidi), and step-daughter Connie Mitchell (John Sumner). Also dearly missing him are grandchildren Joy, Nick, Holly, Lindsay, Rob and Tyler (Meaghan) Mitchell, and three great grandchildren, sister-in-law Gladys Banks, four nieces and one nephew.
Charlie had a full and varied life and was employed at Gummed Paper in Brampton. In 1952 he joined the Canadian Army, and was posted to the Royal Canadian Brampton Police Force for three years. Charlie found his life’s calling, joining the Brampton Fire Department in 1965 and initially the Snelgrove Volunteer Fire Brigade. He worked as a firefighter, attaining the Department’s Honour Guard as Director from 1976, honouring fallen comrade firefighters and at special events.
A proud and staunch Royal Canadian Legion member at Branch 15 (Brampton) since 1956, Charlie was a firm believer in service to his country and his fellow man. He loved to golf, was a wizard at cards and enjoyed softball and hardball as a pitcher. In later years, he enjoyed travel with Etheleen, and a good book.
Visitations will be held at Scott Funeral Home in Brampton, Ontario on Thursday, November 17th from 7 – 9 p.m. and on Friday at 11 a.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 12 p.m. with full honours at Scott Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations to Camp Bucko, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, and St. Andrew’s United Church in Georgetown would be greatly appreciated by the family.
