October 31, 1931 – December 26, 2017
Bruno Mirva, beloved husband of Faye Mirva of Hyas, SK, passed away surrounded by family at the Kamsack Hospital on December 26, 2017, at the age of 86 years.
Brunice (Bruno) was born October 31, 1931, to Kazik and Mary (Yacyshyn) Mirva of the Danbury District, SK.
The family ran mixed farming operations, growing grain and tending to a herd of about 25 cattle, 8 horses, chickens, pigs, turkeys, geese and guinea hens. In addition, they maintained a large garden and they kept bees.
Bruno attended Brush Valley School until grade 8 and then began working. He continued to live at home and worked on neighbouring farms during the summer. In winter he and his brothers, Walter and Joe, would cut wood to keep the family home warm. They would also haul wood into Hyas to sell, where for a day’s worth of wood cutting, about 2 cords of wood they would earn around $10.00 to help support the family. In about 1950, when Bruno was 18 or 19, he left home for his first « real » job working for C.A. Pitts Construction clearing brush from the railway north of The Pas, MB. About a month later, Bruno heard about a different job and was hired by Dominion Bridges of Winnipeg, MB, thus beginning his lifelong work as an Ironworker. He worked all over Canada, including Dew Line and locations in British Columbia, Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. In 1959, Bruno came home to stand up at his brother Joe’s wedding. It was here that he met the love of his life, Faye Babuik, and in 1961 they began their married life together. Bruno and Faye lived in Winnipeg, MB until 1963, when they returned to live on the family farm southwest of Danbury, SK. Together, they were blessed with two children, Michele and Mark. In 1971, they made their permanent home when they purchased the house and farm in Danbury. As well as farming, Bruno also continued to work on various jobs for Dominion Bridges, mostly around Saskatchewan, his last job being in about 1989. One of Bruno’s favorite past times was fishing. The family, and in later years just he and Faye, spent many summers camping and fishing in two favourite spots, Townsend and Jan Lake. Bruno also had a wide variety of interests. He loved reading and was endlessly interested in anything that related to the wars. He was also an avid reader of anything political and to do with current events and there were always the most recent copies of ‘Times’ and ‘Maclean’s’ magazines beside his chair in the living room.
Bruno started facing some health challenges and in 1999, with his eyesight failing, he and Faye decided it was time to retire from farming and had an auction sale. With their free time, they continued to enjoy life to its fullest and took full advantage of summer camping at Townsend and fishing

whenever they could. They also always took great joy in spending time with family and friends sharing a few drinks and lots of love and laughter.
Unfortunately, Bruno’s eyesight continued to fail and on April 6, 2007, he and Faye moved to their new home in Hyas where they continued to reside until his passing. He was a strong willed, very loving and caring man who will be remembered for his generosity, big heart and wonderful sense of humour. Bruno was predeceased by his parents, Kazik and Mary; brother, Walter, sisters: Addie, Jean, Antonia, and May, two sisters and twin brothers before birth; and his daughter, Cheryl. He is survived by his wife, Faye; daughter, Michele; son, Mark (Deanna); grandson, Nathan and granddaughters, Savannah and Josie; brother, Joe; and sisters, Stella and Rose, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, December 29, 2017, at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home, Canora, with Rev. Margaret McCallum officiating.
