Obituary for Barbara Moody
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Barbara Moody at The Grace Hospital in Winnipeg on Friday, February 10, 2017. She was a much loved wife and mother. Barbara was predeceased by her son Gregory, mother and father Mr. and Mrs. Tom Berry, brothers Jim, Jack, Bill, Don, sister Dulcie, mother-in-law Mrs. Irene Sandage (Moody, Sutherland) and stepfather Mr. Allen Sandage.
Barbara leaves to mourn her passing her husband George, daughter Evelyn and son – in law Tim Berman, sister in law Duane Gloria Moody, sister-in-law Ida Berry and many nieces, nephews, friends and cousins.
Barbara was born in Winnipeg on April 13, 1933. She was brought up on the family farm at Manitou. She attended Middleton School and then high school in Manitou. After graduation from high school she moved to Winnipeg and worked for Great West Life, Manitoba Hydro and then with the Federal Department of Agriculture where she qualified herself as a seed analyst.
Barbara married George Moody in 1955 and in this marriage 2 children were born, Gregory and Evelyn. Barbara enjoyed her family, gardening, painting, reading and viewing sports on TV. As a young lady she excelled in sports.
In 1956 she accompanied George to postings in Toronto, Goose Bay Labrador, and Montreal for his work as a meteorologist. At Goose Bay she played first base on the Department of Transport women’s softball team. In 1972 Barbara and George and family returned to Winnipeg. Barbara picked up her career with the Federal Department of Agriculture and the Grain Commission and retired in 1996.
In May 2015 Barbara was struck with the affliction shingles and suffered severe post neuralgia pain. She met this challenge with courage.
The family wishes to extend their thanks and appreciation to the staff of the Grace Hospital in ward 3 north for their kind and thorough care.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 15 at the Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Ave. (across from Brookside Cemetery), with interment to follow in Brookside Cemetery. Viewing will take place for one hour prior to the service.
