Obituary Overview
In Loving Memory
BARNARD, Arthur Ernest
August 9, 1922 – November 10, 2017
Ex-Flight Lieutenant, R.C.A.F. fighter pilot, 402 Squadron, WWII
Final Posting
In Burlington, on November 10, 2017, I have “slipped the surly bonds of earth”. And in my log book, the final entry has been written – “Duty carried out. Tour expired.”
Should anyone wish to spend a few minutes at DODSWORTH & BROWN FUNERAL HOME-BURLINGTON CHAPEL (2241 New Street at Drury Lane 905-637-5233) on November 26 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., do drop in. Please, no flowers. There will be no service. A private interment will be at York Cemetery, Toronto where, in the presence of my dear children, Ted and Kathy, my ashes will become one with those of my beloved wife and companion for 51 ½ years..Shirley (neé Lampman).
If you wish to make a donation, please do so to The Salvation Army, which has quietly done so much for so many of those needing all kinds of help in everyday living.
Over time, I have been quite outspoken in my opinions and in my crusades opposing bureaucratic spoutings from those whom, I believe, do not share my sense of honour and integrity. To quote advice from Shakespeare (Hamlet, Act I, Scene 3)..”To thine ownself be true, And it must follow, as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man.”
Those who did not know me will not know what to make of my words. I trust that those who did know me will have a chuckle or two. And now, to all FAREWELL, and Cheers!
