Arnold Earl Graham
1920-2016
Arnold Graham, age 96 of Upper Queensbury, NB passed away peacefully
on December 5, 2016 at Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital.
Arnold was the dearly loved father of Errol (Debbie Comeau), Diann
(Joan Macintosh), Janice (Andy Wilson), and Gary (Anita); grandfather
to Virgil (Tracy), Melissa, David (Katie), Maggie (Darryl), Ian
(Jenny), Kerstin (Rebekah), Leanne (Matthias), Michelle (Matthew),
Jeremy (Krissy) and Aaron (Crystal); great grandfather to Zach, Adam,
Kai, Anya, Jackson, Sydney, Josie, Carson, Callan, Emma and Quinn.
Arnold is also survived by brother Ardean (Darlene), sisters Darlene
Hughson (Allan), Donna Kupkee (Bob), Shirley Estey (Clayton), Winzora
Swain (Don), Lou Cummings (Malcolm), and Wilza Abernethy (Osborne),
sister-in-law Ruth Graham; several nieces and nephews; and Bernice
Brown, Arnold’s special friend over these last years, who
brought much support, care, kindness and happiness into
Arnold’s life.
Born on September 9, 1920 in Temperance Vale, N.B., he was predeceased
by his wife of 64 years, Norma (Major) Graham, his parents, Fred and
Laura (Marney) Graham, his son Glenn, daughter-in-law Sonia, brother
Dawn, sisters, Doris, Muriel and Geraldine.
Arnold was a hard worker who brought an energetic spirit and
entrepreneurial drive to his lifework as a woodsman, farmer, trucker,
and business man. He was the owner of Black Diamond Charcoal Company
(1960 … 67) and co-owner of Fox & Graham Construction
Company (1950 … 1970). He grew and sold Christmas trees from
home to the local Lions Club and also shipped them south for many
years.
He had a great love of life and enjoyed nothing more than gathering
with his family for happy meals and special times. He looked forward
to the birthday lunchtime gatherings with his brothers and sisters, to
the weekly jamborees of music at various halls and community centres
as well as the card games with his “gang” of friends. He
also enjoyed attending the Nackawic Baptist Church on Sunday and other
events at the church.
Arnold was an honorary life member of the Progressive Conservative
Party of New Brunswick. He was a member of the Wood Products
Marketing Board for York, Sunbury, Charlotte Counties (1975 …
1997). He was deeply interested in service to the community and was a
York County Councilor (1951 … 1966), a School Board member (1952
… 59), a member of the Upper Queensbury Hall Association and
gave the gift of the hall to the community, a member of the Nackawic
Cemetery Committee and a member of the Nackawic Baptist Church.
Arnold had a keen mind and spent a lifetime engaged in politics and
business. He also had a great passion for travel. He and Norma
enjoyed many memorable trips across Canada and the United States.
Family flowers only, please. If desired, memorial donations may be
made to Nackawic Cemetery Fund, the Heart and Stroke Society or a
charity of the donor’s choice.
Visitation will be held at Flewelling Funeral Home, 585 Otis Drive,
Nackawic on Friday from 2 … 4 and 7 … 9 pm. The funeral
service will be held at the Nackawic Baptist Church, 94 McNair Dr.,
Nackawic on Saturday, December 10 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jim Rhyno
officiating. Reception to follow at Church Fellowship Room.
Interment will be at the Nackawic Cemetery at a later date.
