Obituary for Archie R. Chenier
The family of Archie Chenier sorrowfully announces his passing on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at the Timmins and District Hospital. Born on May 24, 1925, Archie spent his life in Timmins from his childhood on the family farm in Mountjoy Township to his adult life working as a cabinetmaker, and as a building construction teacher at TH&VS.
Many local residents fondly remember Archie as a ski instructor at the Kamiskotia Ski Resort where he taught many young skiers in the Nancy Greene Ski League and adults through the resort’s program. Also, Archie was inspirational in bringing « Archie’s Rock » to the attention of the people of Timmins and the province.
Archie was predeceased by his parents Alphonse and Florida, his siblings Laurette, Louise, Bertha, Alfred, Lionel, Delia, Daniel, Henry, and his common-law spouse Annette St. Pierre.
Archie is survived by his sister Yolande St. Jean, and his brother Roland Chenier (wife Zora), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Archie was fortunate to have great friends in his life, friends like ski trip companions Allan (Red) MacDonald and Anne MacDonald, and more recently supportive friend Mike Mulryan.
The family wishes to thank Terri Scott and the entire staff at the Chateau Georgian for their care over the past few years, the competent nursing staff of the surgical unit and the sympathetic Patient Watch group at TDH, the very compassionate staff of the palliative care unit at TDH who cared for Archie with such kindness, the unselfish volunteers of the Horizon-Timmins Palliative Care, and to Father Roland Lapalme whose daily visits were greatly appreciated by the family.
Remembrance donation to the Timmins and District Hospital -Palliative Care Unit would be greatly appreciated.
The family invites friends to attend a memorial reception on Saturday September 30, 2017 from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the MIRON-WILSON FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE 150 Balsam St. S. Timmins
