Annabel Piercey – 2016

Annabel Edith Sarah Piercey: A life well lived is all we can hope to achieve. Annabel succeeded in that aspiration.
Annabel entered this world on November 28th, 1915 in London, England, immediately lighting up the lives of her parents, Fredrick and Annie Langford, and of all those she met thereafter. A sister to Mary, a friend to many, Annabel spent her early years pursuing writing, the piano and was an accomplished seamstress. During WWII she was active in the war effort. Using her seamstress skills, Annabel made parachutes in London for the British Army. It was at this time that Annabel met the love of her life, Albert (Babe) Piercey, a Canadian Solider. It was a love that would survive the next four years of war, and another fifty-five years thereafter. Annabel boarded the Queen Mary in 1946, travelling from London to Halifax and then onward to Swift Current, leaving behind the life she knew to begin her new life in Canada with Babe.
The cosmopolitan girl of London arrived in Swift Current to more rugged surroundings than she was used to. Adapting quickly and making friends with fellow war brides, Annabel made Swift Current her home. Family became her everything, and that is the greatest achievement she leaves behind, the love for her children; Douglas Piercey, Kim Piercey, Lynette Piercey and Karon (Dwayne) Martinoski; grandchildren, Scott (Stacy) Piercey, Angela (Dave) Ross, Melissa Piercey-Smith, Andrew (Brianne) Martinoski and David Martinoski; as well as numerous great-grandchildren. Throughout the years Annabel kept in touch with her family in England, and in 1988 Annabel and Babe travelled back to visit her sister Mary (Sid) Neagle as well as niece Elaine (Brian) Glaysher and nephew Peter (Jenny) Neagle.
Annabel’s other loves included animals and they loved her back equally. During the last few years of her life, visits from dogs, cats and even a tea cup pig brought immense joy to her days. A love of nature, gardening and flowers. A love of literature, so many books read that a count would be impossible. A love of holidays and music. A love of high heeled shoes that she once danced the night away in during her younger years. Annabel finished her journey in this world peacefully at The Meadows in Swift Current, SK on October 9, 2016, joining her husband Babe and sister Mary for the next chapter.
In lieu of flowers, Annabel’s family would ask that you show each other the type of kindness and love that she showed to everyone that met her. Donations in Annabel’s memory may be made to the Swift Current S.P.C.A., P.O. Box 1163, Swift Current SK S9H 3X3. Warren’s Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
