Alexander (Alex) Orest Mochoruk
February 26, 1934 – September 10, 2016
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Dad, Gido and Great Gido, Alex on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at the age of 82 years, after a brief battle with cancer.
Left to cherish his memory are his six children: Garland (Cynthia), daughter Lindsay (Adam) and their children Laurel and Rachel; Gary (Rhian), sons Sayer and Terrance; Jack (Audra), son Zachary and sons Jack (Robyn) and Adam (Nicole); Wendy (Gord), sons Garret and Brendan; Cherelyn (Curt), daughter Makayla and son Mason; and Kathleen (Greg) and their children Keira and Easton; brothers: Michael and Steve (Marilyn); sisters, Stella and Helen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Alex was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Malanka; his beloved wife, Audrey; brothers, Bill, Richard, John, Peter, and Harry; sisters, Mary, Anna, and Lena; and his special friend, Sonya Bilinski.
Alex was born in Hafford Hospital on February 26, 1934, the youngest of 13 children and he resided with his family on the farm near Krydor, SK. He attended Blaine Lake School Unit No. 57 for Grades 1 through 8. After finishing school, he remained in Krydor working in the area and on the family farm until moving to Saskatoon, SK in the late 1950’s.
Alex had many different jobs throughout his life time and his work history included employment at a sawmill in Port Alberni, BC, and various companies in Saskatoon including: Quaker Oats, Palm Dairies, and in particular, Robin Hood Flour Mill, where he held a variety of positions and worked from 1968 until his retirement in 1994.
Alex married his second wife Audrey (nee Smith) on March 3, 1974, and they resided in Saskatoon, SK. Together they raised 4 children until Audrey’s passing on February 28, 1985. He was very proud of his family and all of their accomplishments.
Alex had many past times and some favorites included: hunting, fishing and playing cards – in particular Kaiser and Crib. Most of all he enjoyed spending time socializing with his family and friends – whether it was a birthday celebration, Sunday dinner or Thanksgiving. He especially enjoyed his annual trips to Vancouver, BC to visit daughter Kathleen. Together they toured around Vancouver and went on many sightseeing adventures. The most memorable for both Alex and his daughter was their Alaskan cruise that they took in 2004. Alex also enjoyed hosting Ukrainian Christmas celebrations every year at the family home . . . most of all he loved being Gido to his many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family would like to bestow special recognition and gratitude to our sister Cherelyn for being Dad’s primary caregiver over the last many years which allowed him to remain in the family home until his passing.
We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of Alex’s family and friends who have shared in his life.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made in Alex’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society or Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada.
