LISTER, Alan – Alan Leonard Lister succumbed to complications of congestive heart failure at the Cornwall Community Hospital on June 10, 2016. The only child of Leonard Lacey Lister and Phyllis Rose Hooper, he was born in Edmonton Alberta on Nov. 7, 1929. Proud alumnus of the University of Alberta, he graduated in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy. During a work assignment in Lethbridge, Alberta, he met Shirley-Mae Benson and they married on June 11, 1960. He is survived by his wife Shirley-Mae, and his children Barbara Primeau (Paul) of Kitchener, Bill (Nancy Jodoin) of Cornwall, Doug (Diane Poulet) of Ottawa and Sarah Paynter (Brian) of Kensington, PEI. He was the proud grandfather to Brendan, Chantal, Kyle, Derek, Kristyne, Daniel, Mélanie, Roy and Gary. His quest for adventure led him to move his growing family across the country to settle in Cornwall, Ontario where he enjoyed working as the head pharmacist at the Cornwall General Hospital until his first retirement in 1987. A short move to Ingleside allowed him to enjoy the open spaces and a broad view of the St. Lawrence River. His love for his profession called him back to duty and he enjoyed working in retail pharmacies until his full-time commitment to travel took over in 2007. Alan touched the lives of many as coach, mentor, teacher, volunteer and role model. He remained active throughout his life, and could often be found in a pool, on a bike or going for long walks. One of his greatest passions was being in the kitchen preparing a meal which those gathering around the dinner table would enjoy along with some great conversation. He enjoyed good books, museums, musical productions, and visiting historically significant sites. Resting at Wilson Funeral Home 822 Pitt Street, Cornwall where funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 16 at 11:00AM.
