Obituary for Abe Martens
MARTENS: It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our dearly beloved Abe Martens, who passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at his loving home of the past few years, Dinsdale Personal Care Home, where he lived with his devoted wife Roberta of 60 years. Within this sadness we are at Peace and we Rejoice that our Abe is now in the loving arms of his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and will continue to shine among us as he has throughout his 85 years with us. Abe leaves behind the love of his life Roberta (nee Carter); sons Ken (Martha), Dale (Angela), Daryl (Christiane); grandchildren Jason, Tara (Travis), Kyle and Chad, and the one and only great-grandson Wade. He also leaves behind two brothers, three sisters and many other loved family members. He was predeceased by his daughter Diane; great-granddaughter Rubi and four brothers. Born in Manitou, Manitoba to William and Anna Martens, Abe attended the Pembina Valley School and grew up learning and loving the farm life, but soon realized God was leading him down a different path. This path lead him to Winnipeg, Manitoba into the electrical trade, and also the start of Abe and Roberta’s family, with the births of Ken and Dale. The family then moved to Russell, Manitoba, and once again the family grew with the birth of Daryl. After a few moves to Brandon and Thompson, Manitoba, the family then settled into their permanent home in Brandon, Manitoba in the early 1970’s. A Celebration of Abe’s Life will take place at Calvary Temple, 620 – 34th Street, Brandon, on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Gary Jennings officiating. A reception will take place at the church followed by interment at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. As a family we cannot express in words the gratitude for the amazing love, care and compassion of all the staff, residents and families at Dinsdale Personal Care Home, where Abe and Roberta are known lovingly as « Pops and Momma Martens ». Donations in memory of Abe may to made to the Samaritan House Ministries Inc., 820 Pacific Avenue, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 0J1.
