Margaret « Mardie » G. Smith
1919-2017
It is with heavy hearts during this
special season that the family of Margaret « Mardie »
Geraldine Smith, announce her passing on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at
the Sackville Memorial Hospital, at the age of 98.
Born in Middle Sackville, NB, she was a
daughter of the late George E. and Mary Maude (O’Neal)
Read.
She was the only girl in the family with
7 brothers; Walter, Hal, Don, Russel « Rus », Bernard
« Dutch », John and Jim Read. She was the last
surviving member of her family. She was predeceased by her
husband Austin Smith, November 10, 2000.
She leaves behind her son Malcolm
(Nancy) of Saint John, NB; daughter; Marilyn (Dana) Estabrooks,
Sackville, NB; grandchildren, Christy (Chad) English, Midland,
Michigan, Mindy (Scott) Smith, Rothesay, NB, Matthew (Jada)
Estabrooks, Moncton, NB, Byron Estabrooks, Sackville, NB and Malcolm
(Amanda) Estabrooks, Sackville, NB; great grandchildren, Shawn,
Austin, Dylan, Lucy, Eric, Parker and Brody. Her
sister-in-law Trudy Read and many nieces and nephews.
Mardie was a graduate of the Mount
Allison Academy, class of 1938, and has worked for a senator (JL
Black), a newspaper owner/editor, Bill Sawdon, and several Department
of Education heads at MT. A. She was an exceptional lady,
very good at anything she did, an avid reader, and ahead of her time
having a career as a working girl.
She was a member of the Middle Sackville
Baptist Church and a life member of The Woman’s Missionary
Society.
Arrangements have been entrusted to
Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville, NB
(506-364-1300). In keeping with Margaret’s wishes there will
be no viewing or service. A celebration of her life will be
held later in the year for family and friends.
Those wishing to make a donation in
Margaret’s memory may do so to the charity of your
choice.
Beautiful memories are wonderful
things.
They last till the longest day.
They never wear out, they never get
lost.
