William Joseph (Bill) McCallum Feb 16, 1940 – Oct 28, 2017
It is with great sadness that the family of Bill announces his passing at the Dartmouth General Hospital, NS on October 28, 2017 with family at his side. Bill leaves behind his wife Sheila, his daughter, Heather (McCallum) Cygan, granddaughter Meara, son-in-law Phillip Cygan; his sons Robert and David McCallum and their mother Sandra Parsons; Step children Michael Aikins and Jane Aikins; sisters Katherine, Carol, Mary, Florence, Doris and Margaret, and brothers Frank, Bob, and Richard; sister-in-law Diane Keats; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends. Bill was born raised and educated in Chatham, NB. eldest son of Percy and Florence McCallum. After graduation for St Thomas High School, Bill worked for 11 years with the Bank of Montreal in Atlantic Provinces and finally settled in Dartmouth, NS. In 1969, Bill joined the NS Provincial Government and after 25 years with the Dept. of Labour, he retired as director of Conciliation Services for the Province. Retirement was the career Bill always wanted! He and his wife Sheila enjoyed many vacations and trips around North America and the world visiting family and friends. He fulfilled a life long dream of playing in not one but in two bands, Rock & Roll & Celtic. Bill was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Dartmouth and served on several committees as well as being the Choir Director. Bills family , faith, music and friends sustained him. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on November 3, 2017 with Fr Charles Burke officiating. Reception and burial followed the Mass. The family is so grateful for the visits, cards, memorials, masses and charitable donations in Bills memory; and to the many friends and relatives who attended from afar.
