Lawrence Richard Bedford Marshall
1930-2017
It is with great sadness that the family of Lawrence
‘Larry’ Richard Bedford Marshall announce his
passing on November 10, 2017 at the Oromocto Public
Hospital. Born on July 28, 1930, in Middleton, NS, Larry was
the son of the late Allison and Eva (VanBuskirk)
Marshall.
In his early years, Larry was a member of the military
reserve where he worked during the summers while attending school. He
began his career at Dupont in Montreal and then moved to Fredericton
and worked for the Province of NB in the Department of Commerce and
Technology for 23 years prior to his retirement. During his time with
the provincial government, he was seconded to the University of New
Brunswick to launch the International Business and Entrepreneurship
Centre.
One of Larry’s passions was sports. In 1951 he was
inducted into the Nova Scotia Baseball Hall of Fame for his part in
winning the Maritime intermediate Baseball Championship. In
2004 he was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame at Dalhousie
University for winning the Purdy Cup championship for football.
Larry was a long-time member of the Fredericton golf and
curling club.
Survived by his loving wife, Addie (McKay); sons, David
(Alison) and John (Tinna); a daughter, Elizabeth Kuranoff (David); 10
beautiful grandchildren; sisters, Jeune Snook, Marita Shupe, and
Elaine Prall (John); as well as many nieces and
nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother,
Ted Marshall and two brothers-in-laws, Bill Snook and Keith
Shupe.
Visitation will be held at McAdams Funeral Home on Tuesday,
November 14, 2017 from 2 – 4 pm and 7 – 9 pm. A
memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at 2pm
at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Cambridge Narrows, NB, followed
by a reception at the Municipal Building. If so desired,
memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of NB,
Canadian Cancer Society of NB or a charity of the donor’s
choice.
