Obituary for David Gardy
GARDY, David John
After a courageous battle with leukemia, David (age 63) passed peacefully into the Lord’s presence, surrounded by family, on October 23rd, 2017 at Grand River Hospital. Born in Orillia, March 9, 1954, David is predeceased by his mother, (Delphine Brandon), father (John Gardy), step-father (Ronald Dillabough), and brother, (Paul Gardy).
David will be deeply missed by his beloved wife Carolyn, and their children, Tricia (& her husband Doug), Matthew (& his wife Tina), and Lauren (& Andrej), as well as five grandchildren; Savannah, Benjamin, Brooklyn, Colten and Addisen.
Faith, family and friends have always held high priority for David. He enjoyed life to the fullest and had a passion for adventure, the outdoors, canoeing, kayaking, camping, hunting, fishing, boating, and riding his Harley. In addition, he often impressed us with his gardening, landscaping and cooking skills. David especially enjoyed spending summers in Southampton and Muskoka, vacationing with family, and getting together with friends.
An avid reader and a current events enthusiast, David took pleasure in learning. He was always focused on the task at hand, putting 110% effort into everything he undertook.
Upon graduating from the University of Waterloo with an Honours BSc (Kinesiology), David enjoyed successful careers in various sales and management roles with IBM and TriStar Data Systems. David then utilized his business and project management skills when he and Carolyn began Gardy Interiors Ltd, providing interior design services, since 1978.
David was a member of Benton Street Baptist Church for over 40 years, serving in a variety of roles. He was a founder and President of Sandhills Residential Retirement Community Inc. and served as a Transworld Radio board member for over 12 years.
David’s strong faith, along with his determination to maintain a sense of humour and a positive outlook, allowed him to make the best of every situation, as evidenced throughout his recent battle with cancer.
Heartfelt thanks go out to the many friends, family members and neighbours that have supported us in countless ways, throughout this challenging journey. We express sincere gratitude to the doctors, specialists, nursing staff and support staff at Grand River Hospital, Oncology Division and The Cancer Centre, who served us with such professionalism and compassionate care throughout this challenging journey.
David’s family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, October 27, 2017 from 3-5 and 7-9 pm at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener 519-749-8467. The funeral service will take place at 11 am on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Benton Street Baptist Church, 90 Benton St. Kitchener followed by a reception at the church.
A private family interment will take place at Parkview Cemetery following the reception.
