Obituary
Bill passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 1, 2017.
He is survived by his six children: Bill (Jackie), Craig (Carolyn), John (Daniela), Carol Boulanger (Matthew), Tara, and Sheilagh (Perry Nelson), 10 grandchildren, and one great grandson. He was predeceased by Doreen, his wife of 56 years; parents William Joseph and Florence Jean, and brother Michael (Mick).
Bill was a lifelong learner and teacher. He never shied from an intellectual challenge. His insatiable curiosity to learn about the intricacies of the human body eventually led him to medical school and ultimately to neurosurgery. This was his calling. He was a caring and compassionate doctor who treated everyone as an equal. He served his community diligently until 1992 at which time he hung up his scalpel and exploited his expertise conducting independent medical exams. He was unbiased and fair and had a well-earned reputation for thorough and thoughtful opinions. Bill did this until, at the age of 76, he retired completely to devote his full-time to care for Doreen.
Bill was also an accomplished published author of two books: How I Flew The Forties and Great Balls Of Fire. As well, Bill had a famous sense of humor and used his rapier wit to publish 16 articles in The Journal of Medical Humor: Stitches.
A very special thanks to Dr. Tom Ranieri for his exemplar care and compassion to which our family is eternally grateful, and to the Royal Alexandra Staff on units: 31, 42, and 5E.
