Mary Elizabeth MacQueen, 87, of Sydney Mines passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Saviour on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at Northside General Hospital. Born in Sydney Mines on January 8, 1930, she was the daughter of the late William (Bill) and Amelia (Childs) Bailey. A lifelong resident of Sydney Mines, Mom spent her entire life in devotion to her beloved late husband, Norman, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Beautiful in both face and spirit, Mom nurtured her family as she nurtured her flower garden with tenderness and compassion. Although broken hearted with the death of her beloved Norman, Mom was determined to carry on “for the girls”. Mom is lovingly remembered by daughters Beth (Keith) MacIsaac, Sandi Brown, Marni (Ed) Sheffield, and Norma (Paul) MacQueen-Gale, as well as her sister Diane. She was blessed with grandchildren, Mary Beth (Ezzat) Joel (Meaghan), Kyle (Sarah), Norman James (Shannon), Leah (Norman), Lori Beth (James), Ashley (Mike), Amanda (Jimmy). She is also survived by loving sisters in law, Beth Scott and Lois Caldwell.
Besides her husband Norman and parents, Mom was predeceased by her son John, infant son Donald John, grandson Aaron and sisters Lillian (Stelburne) Gillan, Shirley, and brothers George, Tommy and Cecil.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 6, 2017, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main Street, Sydney Mines. Her funeral service will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. at the Gospel Hall, Yorke Street, Sydney Mines, with Joe Bernon and Don Bartlett officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sydney Mines Food Bank. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
