MacFARLANE, Gerald Francis « Gerry »- Age 87, Troy,
Inverness Co. With broken hearts we announce the passing of Gerald
« Gerry » MacFarlane of Troy, on Saturday, January 14, 2017,
in the Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. He was born in Upper
Margaree, Inverness Co., and was a son of the late John Archibald and
Alice (MacDaniel) MacFarlane. He was predeceased by his loving wife of
51 years, Elizabeth « Libby » in 2007.
Gerald is survived by daughters, Mary (Richard MacKinnon),
Karen (Lorne Foye), both of Troy; Kathy, Halifax; as well as his pride
and joy, granddaughter, Lauren MacKinnon; sisters, Sr. Mary MacFarlane
CSM, Sr. Margaret « Peggy » MacFarlane CSM; brother, Jim
MacFarlane (Shirley), all of Antigonish; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Harold.
Gerald came to the Troy area for the construction of Nova
Scotia Forest Industries and was employed as Supervisor of Material
Handling until his retirement form STORA in 1990. He was a man of
strong faith, prayed the rosary daily and was a dedicated parishoner
of Stella Maris Parish in Creignish. He was a loving, supportive and
kind husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He was a very
hard worker, both at home and in the community. He enjoyed antique
cars, a good visit and gardening. He was always willing to help
others. He was a good man, well respected and loved by all. Sincere
thanks to the staff of the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home, who cared for
our father for the last 3 months.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Monday, January 16 and from
2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17, in Dennis Haverstock
Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Wednesday
from Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Creignish with Father Hughie
D. MacDonald officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery at a later
date. Memorial donations may be made to Stella Maris Parish Cemetery
Fund or the Recreation Program at the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home.
