Obituary for Alan Ritchie
ALAN GEORGE RITCHIE
September 25, 1927 – November 6, 2016
In the early morning hours of Sunday November 6, 2016, Alan George Ritchie passed peacefully from this life to eternal life with Christ. Alan is survived by his wife Beatrice, daughter Marilyn Smith (Doug), sons Douglas Ritchie (Leanna), Philip Ritchie (Claudia), 8 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren, sister Lenore Parker, and brother Earl (Florence) along with many nieces and nephews. Alan was predeceased by his parents, George Ritchie and Alberta Bagnall Ritchie, his granddaughter in law Destiny Hofman, grandson Raymond Alan Hofman and brother in law Hal Parker.
During his 89 years of life, Alan was known for his love and loyalty to family and friends, his passion for life, kindness to others, honesty, compassion, spontaneity, always willing and eager to embrace new adventures while demonstrating his values through the work he did, standing by any promises he made, doing what was right and fair, seeking God’s will through reading his Bible and through prayer.
It was at the age of 17, that Alan asked God to forgive his sins, and to cleanse him from all unrighteousness. From that day forward, Alan demonstrated willing obedience as he looked to God for guidance in all that he did and said. Telling others about the Gospel of God’s Grace was uppermost in Alan’s mind during the rest of his life. Alan’s life as a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, provider, friend, volunteer, sportsman, cook, care giver, hospital chaplain, elder in the Brandon Gospel Hall, also included countless hours spent sharing the Gospel with anyone he met. Sowing the seed was his motto and he did that with faithful steadfastness and kindness .
Alan’s passion was numbers and he excelled as an accountant while working for a number of businesses, in business for himself and latterly for Assiniboine Community College where he worked over 2 decades. He retired from being instructor of accounting in the business administration department. Alan loved teaching and loved his students. He carried many personal stories of students he taught over the years. In the years that followed, there were countless students who came back to tell him of their personal successes and to thank him for his input in
their lives. He said his years at Assiniboine College were the best working years of his life and career.
The Memorial Service to Celebrate Alan’s Life will be held at Memories Chapel, 330 18th Street North, Brandon, on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. Dr. Richard McCammon will officiate. A reception will follow at Memories Chapel. Interment will be at the Brandon Cemetery.
