The family of Michael Hugh Walsh announce his passing– peacefully at the Deep River and District Hospital on Monday, October 3, 2016. He will be sadly missed and gratefully remembered by his family,
Predeceased by wife Mary-Rose (Sexton) and Helen Anne (Mick-Guertin). Dear father of Anne (Stan), Dan (Marsha), Michael (Ruth), Cathy (Doug), Marg (Anita), Sheila (John), and Fran. Loving second father to Laurie, Cindy, Ford, James, Kathleen (John), Alison (Rob) and Bruce (Kathy). Proud and loving grandfather of sixteen grandchildren and great-grandfather of three.
Son of the late Daniel L Walsh and Marie (Dooher). Brother of the late Des (Joan) and Mary (George) McKeiver. Son-in-law of the late Jack and Rose Sexton. Loved brother-in-law of Ange and Roy Leslie, Bill and Barb (late Sarah) Sexton, late Frank and Marie Sexton. Hugh was born in Westport and raised there and in Brockville. He graduated from McGill University in 1950. He made Deep River home for over 60 years, a community he loved and in which he lived a full life. He was a man of faith whose perseverance and acceptance helped him to manage the challenges he faced with dignity and optimism.
The family is grateful to Hugh’s neighbours and community members for their kindnesses and friendships over the years. Thank you to all who assisted Hugh in the last few years with drives and visits, conversations and treats. Special thank you to neighbours Joe, Kevin and Kerri, Wayne and Brenda. We are also thankful for the care provided over the years by Betty Woods.
We gratefully acknowledge the care given to Hugh by Terry McVey and the nursing staff of the Deep River and District Hospital. Also special thanks to CCAC nurses Kelsey and Cheryl, and the personal support workers, especially Frances who became an important part of dad’s daily routine in the last several weeks.
As per Hugh’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Friends are invited to share their memories of Hugh with his family during visitation at the Valley Funeral Home Deep River on Wednesday, October 5th from 3 to 5pm and 7 to 9pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church Deep River on Thursday, October 6th at 11am. Interment Deep River Community Cemetery. If desired, in memoriam donations to the Deep River and District Hospital Foundation or the North Renfrew Family Services would be appreciated by the family.
