Sveinn Finnson
Peacefully, on Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at the Selkirk General Hospital, Sveinn Finnson, a gentle man passed away with his family by his side at the age of 86 years.

He is survived by his daughter Kathy (Scott); grandchildren Kurtis and Courtney; sisters Thorunn, Helga (Bob), Kristine, Vilborg (Wayne), Hildur (Peter); brothers Fridjon (Bernice), Wilfred (Carol), Stefan (Yvonne); in-laws Audrey, Jeanette (Blair), Roberta and many numerous nieces and nephews.
Sveinn was born in Hnausa, MB to a large family of 11 siblings. He was the oldest son. He was a farmhand first and then started to help his father commercial fish at the age of 12. He was instrumental in helping his parents and especially his siblings buy the extras they needed in life. He never expected anything in return. He was a very loving brother.
Sveinn worked hard all his life. He commercial fished all over Lake Winnipeg. He even fished as far as Great Slave Lake. He never learned to swim, he said you always had to respect the lake.
Sveinn married Hazel on May 18, 1963. She was the love of his life. He moved to Selkirk and they resided there and enjoyed 50 years of marriage. After marrying Hazel he was employed at the MRM for 25 years. He still continued to fish and would take his holidays to fish with his father. He fished until 75 years of age.
He loved being an Afi. His mainstay in life was his family.
Sveinn was an avid reader. He was self-educated. He would always have a book in his hand and was always on top of the latest topics.
He enjoyed a quiet retirement. He loved his road trips to Swan River to see his grandchildren. He loved going for coffee, visiting and talking with everyone.
Sveinn moved to Betel Home, January 2014. He made numerous friends and enjoyed his stay there.
The family would like to thank Betel Staff for being so kind, the Selkirk and District General Hospital for their care.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 23, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, MB.
All his nieces and nephews are honorary pallbearers.
