Obituary
The family of Doris Reddington is saddened by the passing of their dear mother on Monday, September 12, 2016, in Edmonton. She was 88 years of age.
The daughter of Adelia (nee Preston) and Garfield Sills, Doris was born and raised on the family farm north of Napanee, Ontario. She loved the farm. It was hard work, but they were fortunate by the standards of the day. After the early death of her father in 1944, she finished high school in Napanee at 16 and joined her mother in Trenton, Ontario where she started to work on the Air Force base.
There, Doris met the love of her life, an airman, John Reddington, and they were married on September 6, 1952. They spent 20 years covering Canada from Comox, B.C. to Goose Bay, Labrador and also parts of Europe, before retiring to London, Ontario. Doris graduated from UWO with an Honours B.A. in English and earned her Education degree the year after. They subsequently moved to Edmonton and Doris was an Executive Secretary with Syncrude.
In retirement, Doris and John travelled across Canada, visiting the few places they hadn’t seen previously. Doris loved the arts. She studied voice and piano at an advanced level and she enjoyed music her entire life. She dabbled in many art forms with varying degrees of success, but it was a life-long passion.
Doris will be greatly missed and remembered by her son, Shaun and his wife Sheila, as well as her many friends and relatives. She was predeceased by her beloved John last year. Her parents and brother have long since passed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm, on Thursday, September 22nd, 2016 at McDougall United Church, 10025 – 101 Street NW, Edmonton.
