Obituary On Saturday, July 23, 2016 Dr. Craig Lindsay Roxburgh passed away at the age of 72. Craig is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn, of 45 years; daughter, Andrea (Ken Hutchinson); grandchildren: Kaden and Carter; and brothers: Malcolm (Barbara), David (Elaine) and Andrew (Pat); along with various nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Allan Roxburgh and Rowena (Craig) Roxburgh. Craig obtained his teaching qualifications at the University of London Institute of Education, England. Further schooling, including a B.Ed., Masters and PhD in Education was completed at the University of Alberta, University of San Diego and San Diego State University respectively. In 1969 Craig moved to Canada to embark on a teaching career in Cherhill, Alberta and then in Sangudo, Alberta where he was both Vice Principal and Principal. After leaving teaching, Craig held various diverse roles including teaching school staff and students across Alberta to use Apple computers, working for the Alberta Department of Education as an Assistant to the Deputy Minister and as Director of Policy and Planning, then as a co-owner managing The Academy of Learning in downtown Edmonton. Craig also completed various contract projects for Alberta school boards, taught graduate Education courses at the University of Alberta and was often asked to make presentations at education conferences in Canada and the US. He also participated actively in the community as the President of the Sangudo Lions Club, women’s fastball coach and faithful Legion member. After suffering a debilitating stroke in in 1997, Craig was left with limited speech and a weakened right side. Despite such major handicaps, Craig resumed driving and embarked on an active volunteer career with the Edmonton Stroke Recovery Association, Glenrose Hospital and Youville Home. In 2001, Craig was recognized for his community contributions by being awarded the St. Albert Volunteer of the Year Award. Much time was also spent at the Sturgeon Adult Day Program. Attendance in this valuable and supportive program was a major part of Craig’s life, allowing him to experience a variety of activities. Craig was a charismatic, outgoing person who enjoyed socializing, sailing in earlier years, camping, photography and travelling. He had a fabulous sense of humor which remained fully intact regardless of the struggles he faced in his last days. A celebration honoring Craig’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, August 5, 2016 at Connelly-McKinley St. Albert Funeral Home, 9 Muir Drive, St. Albert, Alberta. Donations in his honor may be made to the Adult Day Program, care of the Sturgeon Hospital Foundation, 201 Boudreau Road, St. Albert, AB, T8N 9Z9.
