Cecilia Kilar 1925 – 2016

Obituary Cecilia Stefania Kilar was born in Poland on August 21, 1925. with her mother ,Emilia, and older sister, Frances, they joined her father, Jozef Kilar, in Canada in 1926. She was raised in the Boyle area, where her family farmed, and after her education, she immediately began teaching in Lac La Biche, Claresholm, and Edmonton. She then accepted a contract with the Canadian Armed Forces and taught on CFB bases in Europe, before returning to Canada and teaching at CFB Cold Lake until her retirement in 1980. Cecilia took summer school course for many years and proudly completely her BA in Education in 1979.Cecilia looked after her dad, our Dziadzo, from 1980 until his death in 1990, spending summers with him in Boyle (his home) and winters in Edmonton (her home). Cecilia enjoyed the company of her friend, John Piard, her sisters, brother, and their families. She loved to host Christmas and Easter celebrations, where there was always good food and company. Cecilia loved and was devoted to all her family, which had grown from her parents and siblings Frances, Joe, Rose, Mary, Avita, Lucy, and Angie, to include 5 generations. She was proud of her polish heritage and was fiercely independent. She loved teaching and discussing current events. In spite of a bout with caner, Cecilia recovered and lived in her own home for many years with the help of her sister, Mary.With the continues help of her family, Cecilia was able to enjoy her life at home, and after a brief stay at the Grey Nuns Hospital, she died peacefully oi Thursday, July 14, with her nieces Anna and Lucille by her side. May she be greeted in Heaven by all those who loved her: parents, Emilia and Jozef; siblings, Angie, Frances, Joe, and Mary; niece, Elizabeth; nephew, Ron; brothers-in-law, Andy Piard and Phillip Gauthier; and dear friend, John Piard. May her soul rest in peace.
