Arthur Jones – 2016

Late of Waterloo. Born in Melbourne, Australia. Closed his flight plan and crossed over to the other side on Wednesday, June 22, 2016. Survived by “the core of my being, the light of my life, my sweetheart forever, my wonderful wife”, Anna (nee Cox) for over 73 years. Also survived by son, Alan (Barbara) Jones, daughter, Elizabeth (Paul) Fryer; 6 grandchildren, Sarah, Matthew (Amanda) and Jeffrey Jones and Jacob, Annie and Leah Fryer; and great-grandchildren Travis Klett and Cassandra Jones as well as great-great granddaughter Bleu. Pre-deceased by son, Bruce (1968). Also pre-deceased in Australia by parents, Ida and Albert Jones; sisters Aileen (Greenhough); Patricia (Hawkings); and brother, Barrie. Survived in Australia by brothers, Jack (Pamela) and Len. He is also fondly remembered by his Canadian family – the Weirs, Balls and Coxes. Art was a country boy, raised on a mixed farm (wheat and wool) in the Euglo District of Central NSW, attending a one-room country school. During WW II he served in the Australian Air Force, (Aircrew) 1941-1945, trained in Canada under the BCATP and was then posted to the Royal Air Force (RAF) No. 45 Grp., (Ferry Command) where he served as a Radio Operator – Navigator – F/Lt. He was engaged in delivering Military Aircraft to the UK, West Africa, North Africa, India and Australia. Anna and Art were married in December 1942, son Alan was born in May 1944. The family lived in Wollongong, NSW for 2 years (1946-47) while Art studied Industrial and Commercial Accounting. They returned to Canada in early 1948. Art became a landed immigrant and subsequently a Canadian Citizen. He enjoyed a very interesting business career locally in the metal working industry in Management “Sunshine – Waterloo Co.” Babcock-Wilcox, Hahn Brass, Waterloo Metal Stamping, culminating in owning and operating Globe Stamping Co. of Kitchener for 15 years until retirement in 1987. Anna and Art travelled quite extensively including many visits back to Australia. Art took up recreational flying in the late ‘70’s and for 20 years owned and flew his own aircraft. He loved to fly. He was a former member of Wings 400 and 404 RCAF Association; Waterloo Rotary Club, KW Confederation Club (Director), Kitchener Chamber of Commerce (Director), Gyro Club, WW Flying Club, and a 50 plus year Member of Westmount Golf Club. A Reception and Celebration of Art’s life will be held on Friday June 24, 2016 from 2 – 4 p.m. at the Erb and Good Family Funeral Home in Waterloo. A private family Internment will take place at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Guelph.
