With much sadness, we announce the passing of Gina Hetenyi, age 77, on June 8, 2016, at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. She was born on March 2, 1939 in Capua, Italy to Pasquale and Maria Pitocchelli. At the age of 21 she left the family farm to start a new life in England, where she met her future husband, Laslzo Hetenyi. In 1966 Gina, Laszlo and their two small children (Anna and Olga) left England to live in New Brunswick, Canada. A third child (Gabriella) arrived in 1968. Since 1975 the family has lived in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Anyone who knew Gina loved her kind, generous soul. Her fabulous meals were well known to family and her many friends. She had an amazing work ethic and was very intelligent. Her backyard garden was her happy place and her passion for gardening has been handed down to her grandchildren who are continuing to tend the garden. Gina is survived by her children Anna (Greg) Birston, Olga (Guy) Boisvert and Gabriella (Darcy) Otway and grandchildren Lia Birston, Davin Boisvert, Carlee and Kyle Otway as well as numerous relatives in Italy. Gina was predeceased by her parents, her brother and her grandson, Corey Birston. As per Gina’s wishes, cremation has already taken place and there will be no service. Instead, she wanted her family to enjoy a beautiful dinner together. Please enjoy a nice dinner with your family as well and raise a glass in honour of this incredible woman. We love you and miss you. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Westfort Chapel, 420 West Gore Street at James.
