Edy Flueler August 25, 1929 – October 1, 2015 Pierrefonds, Quebec — Edward (Edy) Flueler, 86, died Thursday, October 1, 2015 at the Jewish General Hospital after a sudden diagnosis of metastatic melanoma cancer. He leaves his wife of 60 years, Shirley Flueler (Rainey); his daughters Beverly (Mark Mansour) and Carolyn (Mike Adams); his grandchildren Paul, Tara, Derek, Ashley, and Kyle; and many close friends and family. Edy was born in Bern, Switzerland. He was the son of Martin Gottlieb Flueler and Anna Maria Flueler (Baur) and brother of his late sister Ruth Shannon (Flueler). Edy resided in Pierrefonds (Quebec) since 1959. In 1938 at the age of nine, Edy and his family moved to Glen Sutton in the Eastern Townships. At the age of sixteen, he bravely moved to Montreal to help clear his asthma and to gain a sense of independence where he undertook the masterful skill of watch making. From 1955 to 1985, he furthered his career at Northern Telecom repairing precision measurement equipment. While working full-time, Edy drove for Paul’s Taxi Service from 1965 to 1972. A wonderful family man, Edy provided for his family and enjoyed surprising them with little pleasures like Chinese takeout and pizza in the middle of the night. Edy always volunteered his time to help the community. In the early 1960s, he helped establish the Cloverdale Park Tenants Association, the Cloverdale Booster Club which organized social events, ran movies for kids, and was a driver for the West Island Volunteer Accompaniment Service since 1992. Edy kindly donated countless hours driving people to doctor and hospital appointments and happily waited for them during their visits. Edy was a member of the Pointe-Claire Horticultural Society, the W.I. Photography Club, the Lakeshore Stamp Club, the Northern Pioneers, and other community groups. He loved camping with his wife and two daughters and enjoyed watching all types of sports. Edy was very proud of his extended family and spoke highly of them to others. He was caring, genuine, selfless, helpful towards others, and very proud of his Swiss heritage. He visited his home country many times and kept in touch with relatives and friends abroad. Edy was known for his kindness, friendly kisses, hugs and sincere handshakes. He will be missed by everyone whose lives he touched.
