It is with great love and sadness that we announce the loss of Willi Lange, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at the Hospice House.
Willi was born on July 14, 1942, in Dirschau, Germany and immigrated to Canada in 1954. He received his Canadian citizenship just after meeting Patricia Warman in 1964 and three years later they were married. For over 57 years he was a devoted husband to Pat, father to Corey Lange (Carrie) and Lisa Planz (Mark) and a very proud grandpa to Joshua, Brayden, and Kaleb Lange.
Willi was the youngest of 12 children born to Eduard and Adele Lange and is survived by 5 siblings: Ruth, Joanne, Hilde, Hulda, and Edmund. He was a much loved and favourite uncle to many of his nieces and nephews.
He began his work life at a rope factory in Vancouver, later finding employment at the S.M. Simpson Sawmill, Plywood Division, in Kelowna where he stayed for 43 years, retiring in 2003 as the millwright chargehand. His kind and easy-going personality led him to make many lasting friends and acquaintances there and he was admired for his strong work ethic, knowledge and dedication. In his spare time, and particularly after retirement, he enjoyed curling, golfing, camping with family, puttering in his garden and catching up with all the retirees from work over lunch and coffee with the golf buddies through the winter. He also loved spending time with his family, sharing stories, and reliving all the great memories.
Willi’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all of his care team at the Kelowna General Hospital and the Central Okanagan Hospice House for their compassionate and dedicated care.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Willi’s legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
