WEISS, JOHN “WAYNE” – Peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, Wayne Weiss passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at Bluewater Health Sarnia, at the age of 76.
Wayne is lovingly remembered by his cherished children: Janet (Jeff) Vince and Heather (Dwayne) Whelply, whom he shared with Karen Weiss, as well as Jordan and Jackson Weiss, whom he shared with Laura (Lomax) Weiss.
A proud and loving grandfather, Wayne found immense joy in the lives of his grandchildren: Matthew, Kyle, Jake and Brett Vince, and Ryan and Lauren Whelply. He delighted in their accomplishments and wished them happiness and success throughout their lives.
Wayne is also survived by his siblings, who knew him as a deeply loyal and compassionate brother, a steady source of strength, humour, and unwavering support throughout their lives: Warren (the late Sharon) Weiss, Owen (Sherry) Weiss, Scott Weiss, David (June) Weiss, Alan (Michelle) Weiss, Lynn (Greg) Mathieson, Paul (partner Michelle) Weiss and brother-in-law Greg Lomax. Along with nieces and nephews: Angela and Chris Scott (Warren and Sharon Weiss), Jennifer and Dan Weiss (Scott and Janet Weiss), Parker and Sydney Weiss (Alan and Michelle Weiss), Tanis and Michael Mathieson (Lynn and Greg Mathieson) and in loving memory of Justin Weiss (Paul Weiss).
A man of deep principle, compassion, and public service, Wayne dedicated his professional life to the safety and well-being of others. He proudly served with Sarnia Police Service, retiring as Deputy Chief of Police after decades of exemplary leadership, fairness and unwavering commitment, ending his working career as Security Manager with Casino Point Edward. His influence extended beyond his badge, as he continued to give back by serving on numerous boards and championing local charitable causes close to his heart.
Wayne lived with purpose and passion. He found joy in sports-whether playing hockey (or tackling those who were playing on own his team), baseball, lacing up for a run, or cheering on his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs, always holding onto hope for that long-awaited Stanley Cup. He also loved music, travel, entertaining, and sharing laughter and stories with family and friends. His sense of humour, generous spirit, and love of life will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 62 in Sarnia on Sunday June 1, 2025, from 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations made in Wayne’s memory may be made to Bluewater Health Palliative Care, Huron House Boys Home, Alzheimer’s Society or a local charity of your choice would be appreciated.
