Violet May Dalton
Violet May Dalton
March 22, 1939 – February 1,
2025
Violet May Dalton
– Our precious Violet has been released from her enemy of
Parkinsons and dementia. Violet, 85, of Prospect, passed away
peacefully surrounded by her husband and family on Saturday, February
1, 2025 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on March 22, 1939
at Shaw Road, Berwick, she was the 7th child of
a family of 9, of Harvey LeRoy and Retta Iolia (Gould) Connors. She
was born on the 2nd day of spring 1939 but her
mother Retta said there was a fierce snowstorm that
day.
Violet is survived by
her husband of 67 years, Everett; sons, Terry (Lisa-Marie) and Craig;
daughters, Christine (Joseph) Pynch, Sherry Lowe (Don Best) and
Michelle (Mark) White; grandchildren, Tanya, Sarah, Thomas, John,
Melissa, Kyle, Ashlee, Melanie, Stephanie, Ryan, Nicholas, Stephen and
Kelly; great grandsons, Cody, Evan and Kieran. Violet is also survived
by her sister, Elizabeth (Henry) Chapman and sisters-in-law, Gladys
Connors, Gloria (Stan) Dominey and Muriel Dominey; and many nieces and
nephews.
Violet’s
love of family embraced her desire to be a full-time mother and wife
at home. She also looked after some neighbours small children at her
home at the same time. She loved children. While doing all this, she
also found time to teach Sunday school at the Cambridge Baptist
Church. After her children were in high school, she wanted to be more
outgoing and complete her schooling. She worked in the food service
industry and completed high school through GED exams. While in food
services, she met a southern USA lady who ordered for breakfast,
« Cackleberries and toast ». Violet had never heard of this
type of berry and finally the lady said that cackleberries are regular
hen eggs. Violet loved to tell this story in full
detail.
After food service
work, Violet worked at a cranberry operation in Aylesford for many
years. While there, a movie was made called « The Secret »
starring Kirk Douglas and Bruce Boxleitner, and Violet met both. She
was thrilled!
Violet also
volunteered as Secretary for the Cambridge Cemetery for a period of 10
years. Violet has great respect for Veterans’ and has in the
past given many hours as a volunteer with the Royal Canadian Legion
Ortona 069, Berwick, and has received certificates of merit. Violet,
all her life, has been a keen family history researcher and has put
together many family binders of her family and others. Violet was
always looking for ways to help others. With this in mind, she joined
as a volunteer at the St. John Ambulance Brigade, Waterville Division
and was Duty Officer for many years over which she volunteered over
4000 hours. In 1987, Violet was presented in Ottawa by Governor
General Jeanne Sauve, the Insignia of Serving Sister, the Order of St.
John. In 1980, Certificate of Special Thanks was presented to Violet
by Nova Scotia Lit. Gov. John Shaffner in Halifax. In 1997, Violet was
promoted to Officer of the Order of St. John by Nova Scotia Lit. Gov.
John Kinley in Halifax. In 2000, a 22-year service pin was awarded to
Violet by Nova Scotia Lit. Gov. Myra Freeman in Halifax. In 2004,
Violet was awarded a 25-year service plaque with St. John Ambulance
No. 497 Waterville and District, NS.
Violet enjoyed each
day at the cottage at Huntington Point and the many friends she had
there. Violet and Everett travelled all of Canada over the years.
Their Alaskan cruise was most enjoyable and they toured much of Alaska
and the Yukon. Their holiday in Kentucky with Alf and Bev for
bluegrass was wonderful as was their winter vacations in the Bahamas
with Bill and Idella. But most of all, Violet loved her home and
family.
Besides her parents,
Violet was predeceased by brothers, LeRoy, Robert and Donald; sisters,
Thelma Adams, Dorothy Usher, Margaret Pynch and Barbara Usher;
son-in-law, Karl Lowe; brother-in-law, William « Billie »
Dalton.
The family would like
to thank the doctors and nurses on Medical A and C for their care and
compassion to Violet. Also many thanks to all the VON workers for
their care and compassion. To Sherry and Wanda, for three years of
being family with us in care of Violet, you will always be in our
hearts.
Cremation has taken
