Obituary of Velma Marjorie Minaker
Velma (Grey-Macartney) Minaker November 2, 1924 – February 25, 2025
Even at 100 she rocked it! Never a day would go by and she had to look her best. The family of Velma Marjorie (Grey, Macartney) Minaker passed away early morning February 25th with her favourite friend and caregiver by her side, Barbara Jennings. The family is forever grateful to Barbara for the years that she cared for Mom and pretty much was at her beck and call, LOL! Velma was loved by many but not by more than her own family. She leaves her son, Gerry (Mary Klein) and Rick (Darlene), three grandchildren that she absolutely cherished, Rob (Renee Sabourin), Shannon (Jack) Soares and Jaime (Ryan Hanna). She was so proud of her two great-grandsons, Joaquim and Mateo Soares. She was predeceased by her second husband, Roger Minaker.
Darlene would describe her mother-in-law as one of the best that anyone could have. She was more than a mother-in-law; she was a best friend and mother to her. Velma was a great listener and a very caring person. By the time one reaches 100, you lose a lot friends; however, she gained as many as she lost which is a testament to her delightful and engaging personality. People would gravitate to her, with her beautiful smile and great sense of wit and humour.
We are very thankful to Dr. Lily and Bluewater Health, Palliative, Floor 5 who brought her back to us for another two years. The next best thing to happen to Velma was living at Vision, Huron where she was loved and cared for by so many wonderful and caring staff. This was a good period for her when she was in constant care and doted on by so many. Velma did not embrace death easily. She didn’t want to die alone; she just wanted to go to sleep. Wish granted! We love you Mom, Nanny, Val and we will hold you in our hearts forever. Will watch for you in that beautiful red cardinal.
Arrangements entrusted to the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, (519-344-3131) Cremation has taken place. Interment at Lakeview Cemetery at a later date. Messages of condolence and memories may be left at www.mckenzieblundy.com
