Simone « Simmy » Gardner (Pancer)
Simmy passed away unexpectedly, suddenly and peacefully on Friday April 18, 2025.
She will be deeply missed by her children Andrea (Phil), Allison (Phil), Paul (Wendy), and sister (in-law) Lee Rimon (Hessie). Simmy was the life partner and loving wife of the late Chuck Gardner, daughter of the late Chana and Max Pancer, and sister of Faye Cohen. Buby is also survived by her grandchildren Rebecca, Zachary, Avery, Jacob, Naia and Noah.
Family was Simmy’s everything and her grandchildren were her world. Her friendships were extensive, lifelong, and deep. Her adventurous spirit and willingness to do anything for anyone left all who knew her in awe. Simmy was the first call, the go to, the calming presence and the pillar of strength for everyone in her orbit. She was always there.
In addition to her presence in the community and being our family’s foundation, Simmy continued to maintain her ties to her past professional life, recently attending her University of Toronto 65th class reunion from her Occupational and Physio Therapy program and even more recently, a retirement party for an OT she mentored during her many years at the Ottawa Civic Hospital.
Simmy’s was everyone’s best friend, everyone’s mother, everyone’s sister, everyone’s Buby, everyone’s travel buddy. Everyone’s everything.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2pm on Monday, April 21, 2025 at Kehillat Beth Israel, 1400 Coldrey Avenue, Ottawa. Interment will follow immediately after the service at Jewish Memorial Gardens, 2692 Bank Street, Ottawa.
Shiva will be observed at Andrea’s home, 481 Mansfield Avenue Monday from 7pm to 9pm, Tuesday through Thursday from 1pm to 3pm and 7pm to 9pm, Friday from 1pm to 3pm. Services will take place each evening at 7:30pm.
In lieu of flower, donations in Simmy’s memory can be made to Jewish Family Services of Ottawa or any charity of your choice.
