It is with deep and profound sadness
that we announce the sudden passing of Scott Douglas
McNutt, 69 years, of Springhill. Scott passed away
following a heart attack on Sunday, January 5, 2025.
Born in Springhill, he was the son of
the late Hilton A. and M. Belle (Maddison)
McNutt.
Following the bump in 1958 he moved with
his family to Shelburne. Scott had many fond memories of his childhood
in Shelburne and it continued to be one of his favorite places to
visit throughout his life. In 1966 he moved to Woodstock, N.B. and
then on to New Castle, N.B., where he graduated from High School. He
attended St. Thomas University in Fredericton, where he completed a
Bachelor of Arts degree with majors in History and English. His
summers were spent working various jobs at the Keltic Lodge in
Ingonish, which he fondly remembered and described as his « happy
place ».
Scott met his wife Pippa on Christmas
eve in 1979. In December of 1980, after six intensive months of
training at RCMP Depot, Scott was posted to Lumsden, Saskatchewan. He
and Pippa were married on June 20th 1981 and
for their ‘honeymoon’, they packed up their
possessions and drove to his first posting in Lumsden to start their
lives together. They spent five years there and made many
lifelong friends.
Scott was posted back to Nova Scotia in
1987 to be closer to family, and served out of the Sackville N.S.
detachment before being posted to a plain clothes position out of
Halifax, where he worked until his retirement in
2011.
Scott always enjoyed the outdoors,
especially time spent at various family hunting and fishing camps with
his Dad, uncles, cousins and friends. Scott’s greatest
sources of pride were his wife, children, grandchildren and cheering
on the Toronto Maple Leafs. He enjoyed summers at his cottage in Port
Howe and going for drives in his truck.
He will be dearly missed for his unique
sense of humor and kind, generous heart.
He will be missed by his loving wife of
43 years Pippa (Miles) McNutt, sister Lynne Billings (Richard);
children, Thomas McNutt (Erin Pieterse) and Jessica Feith (Joey);
grandchildren Everett, Ollie, Caleb, Owen and Hannah as well as
nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are under the care and
direction of the A. H. Brown Funeral
Home, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill, (902 597 2361). A
funeral service will be held on Friday, January 10th, 2025 at 11 AM at
the Baptist Church in Springhill.
Donations in memory of Scott can be made
to a local food bank or charity of your
choice.
Sharing of memories and condolences may
