Robert Edwin Catchpole Obituary
My husband and best friend for the past 64 years passed away on Sunday February 2, 2025.
Bob worked for the Wentworth School Board for 35 years. He started teaching at Mary Hopkins School in Waterdown and at the age of 25 became the first principal for the new Guy B. Brown School in Waterdown. Education was not just his profession, it was his passion. A lifelong learner, he took every opportunity to teach others, even in his final days.
After retiring at 55, he spent six months every year with his best friend (me) and all our wonderful neighbours at our cottage in Tobermory. We enjoyed all the visits from our children, grandchildren, family, and friends. Bob volunteered at Ronald McDonald House in Hamilton for 14 years. He really enjoyed his time there but it was cut short because of his paralyzing stroke in 2014. Bob spent the next eight years at home and his final three years at the Meadows Long Term Care in Ancaster. To all who helped care for him during this time, my heartfelt gratitude. Special thank you to: Terry – I could not have done it without you; my children for being with him every weekend; my grandchildren for all their love and support; and everyone at church for caring.
Bob’s greatest gift was his sense of humour. Always quick with a joke, he brought many people joy through laughter.
Bob is survived by his son Michael (Mary-Anne), grandchildren Natasha (Zack), Nick, Alexis and great grandchildren Abigail and Zoey; and daughter Cathy (Bill) Nicholson and granddaughters, Emily and Sarah.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Bob’s life will take place in the spring.
