Obituary
With great sadness, the family of the late Natalie Pysemny, beloved wife of the late William Pysemny, announce her passing at the Canora Gateway Lodge on February 15, 2025, at the age of 99 years.
Natalie was born on September 8, 1925, to Fred and Katherine (nee Bartko) Leniuk on the family farm near Buchanan, SK, where she was raised with her seven brothers and three sisters. She attended Tiny School, Buchanan High School, and Canora High School. Following the completion of her high school education, Natalie moved to Saskatoon, SK, where she worked in the cafeteria at the prestigious Bessborough Hotel. From 1944-1945, Natalie received her teacher training at Saskatoon Normal School. Over the next 14.5 years, she taught in the surrounding school districts in Mohyla, Antonia, Gogol, Dunay, and Dydland.
On October 12, 1946, she was united in marriage to Willaim Pysemny, and together they were blessed with one daughter, and two sons. The family ventured into mixed farming and eventually moved into just grain growing operations. They established a shelter belt of trees in a yard five miles north of Canora, where they built a house in 1959.
While farming, Natalie also enjoyed growing large gardens, and gave away extra produce the family did not need. Growing flowers was her hobby and she tended to many around the house and yard, while she kept the farmyard neat, tidy, and trimmed.
Above all, gatherings with family and friends were very special to her. Additionally, she was an active member in the St. Michael’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the Mohyla District, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, the Ukrainian Women’s Association of Canada in Canora, and served on several committees for many years. She was also a proud member of the Canora Gateway Lodge Auxiliary, serving as its president for four years and secretary for another four years. She enjoyed her time and membership within the Keen Age Society as well.
Throughout her lifetime, Natalie travelled to Australia, New Zealand, Cuba, Santa Domingo, Disneyland, Disney World, and Mexico.
in January 2022, Natalie was admitted to the Canora Gateway Lodge, where she continued to reside until her passing on February 15, 2025. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Natalie was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Katherine; husband, William in 1999; brothers: Mike, Bill, Jake, Peter, Paul, Metro, and John; and her sisters: Anne, Mary, and Mabel.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Myra (Joseph) Homenuk; sons, Bob (Pi) Pysemny and Jeffrey Pysemny; grandsons, Patrick (Lisa) Gorenko and Ian (Dawn) Gorenko; great-grandchildren: Kirstin Andreen, Jackson Gorenko, and Mason Gorenko; and her great-great granddaughter, Kalani Andreen; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 21, 2025, with Rev. Fr. Yurii Obukh officiating. Responses will be led by the parish cantor, Zennovia Duch. Interment will follow in the Canora Cemetery, Canora, SK.
