It is with deep sadness that we mourn the passing of James ‘Jim’ McIntosh, who passed away at his home on April 12, 2025 in his 88th year. Reunited with his wife of 62 years, the late Brenda Eileen McIntosh (née Turner) (2023). He will be lovingly remembered by his children daughter Carol Leeming (Tim Cook), and son Ross (Barb) McIntosh. Dear grandfather of Jessie (Jeff) Greidanus, Laura Leeming, and Troy Leeming (Davis Steffler); Kirsten, and Dugald McIntosh; and dear great-grandfather of 6 great-grandchildren.
Dear brother and brother-in-law of Mary (Lawrence) Butt. Jim will also be remembered by his nieces, nephew, family, friends and neighbours.
Jim is predeceased by his parents James C. & Vera (Crozier) McIntosh, father and mother-in law Bill and Hazel (Moffatt) Turner, and brother-in-law Ron Turner.
Jim grew up on a farm in Tuckersmith Township, attended high school in Seaforth and then headed off to the University of Guelph where he graduated from the Ontario Agriculture College in 1959 with his BSc and in 1961 with a Masters Degree in Poultry Nutrition. At the U of G he met his future wife Brenda and together they moved back to his home farm in 1961, built a house next to his parents farm house; and he was hired to be the new Clerk of the Township of Tuckersmith with the office operating from the farm.
Jim grew the farm and focused on laying hens, pullets and a cropping operation. Together with Brenda, he dedicated his life to agriculture and was always a promoter of ‘local’. He was actively involved with the Huron County Federation of Agriculture and OFA, the Huron County Egg Farmers and represented Huron as a Director to the Egg Farmers of Ontario for many years. He was involved with the Van Egmond Foundation, Blyth Festival Board and the local Liberal Association.
Jim was well known for his love of Ford New Holland tractors, walking his dog, doing word searches, and watching music concerts by Andre Rieu. Jim and Brenda enjoyed travelling across Canada and the world, driving their trailer to Texas for the winter months and touring around in their red Ford Mustang convertible with their dog Taffy.
He was a man who lived his life out loud and can be remembered for his distinctive voice and always having a sense of humor.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 456 Main Street South, EXETER on Saturday, April 26th from 1 – 4 PM with words of remembrance beginning at 2 PM. Donations to the Huron Hospice, Blyth Festival Theatre or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
