Maureen Murray (May 2, 1943 – February 27, 2025)
After a long illness, Maureen Murray (née Kelly) of Silverton, B.C. passed away in New Denver, B.C. at the age of 81.
Maureen grew up in Silverton, attended high school in New Denver, and then attended the University of British Columbia. She taught at A.I. Collinson and Central Elementary schools in Nelson for many years. She particularly enjoyed teaching language arts, social studies, music, and art.
Maureen was an avid and enthusiastic lifelong reader and learner. She loved to play piano and guitar. As a university student, Maureen spent many summers working in the Rocky Mountains. She loved to hike there. She continued to visit the mountains throughout her life.
Maureen is survived by her husband, Ken, her children, Michael and Andrea, her brother, Jack, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She is predeceased by her parents, Jack and June, and her brother Rod.
At Maureen’s request, there will be no memorial service. Our family wishes to thank everyone at the Pavilion and the Slocan Community Health Centre for their kind care of Maureen since 2023.
