It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Madeline Elizabeth Ryan (Byrne) on February 28, 2025, at the Carbonear General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 74.
Born on April 24, 1950, on Bell Island, to the late John and Ellen Byrne, Madeline was the beloved wife of John Ryan, with whom she shared 55 wonderful years of marriage.
Predeceased by her In-laws, Michael and Margaret Ryan. Brothers Gerald (Margaret) Byrne & Bill Byrne. Sisters Peggy (Lar) Ryan, Anita Byrne and Agnes Byrne. Brother-in-law Richard (Madeline) Ryan. Sister-in-law Nancy Byrne. Leaving to morn her brothers Jack (Sheila), Jim, Howard (Ros), George, Donald (Dorothy), Sisters-in-law Beth (Gerald) Nash, and Mary Byrne. As well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, family, friends and best friend Ros Crompton.
Madeline was a loving mother to Jackie (Craig), Michael (Annette), Michelle (Bill), Debra and Sean. And beloved nanny to Alyssa (Robin), Derek, Devon (Karly), Maggie, Grace, and Abby.
Madeline was known for her nurturing spirit, dedicating much of her life to her immediate and extended family. As a homemaker and a beautician, she was always ready to lend a helping hand. In her free time, Madeline enjoyed playing darts, reading, knitting, and dancing to the oldies. She was a fabulous cook. Hosting many a family get together, as well as cooking for the community with the Ladies Auxiliary of Marysvale. She will be especially remembered for her famous gravy.
Her presence in our lives will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Thursday March 6, 2025, 10am – 9pm, at Broughton’s Funeral Home, Brigus. Funeral Mass to take place on Friday March 7, 2025, 2:00 pm at Our Lady Snow’s Roman Catholic Church, Marysvale. Interment to follow at a later date.
Flowers greatly accepted, or donations can be made, in her memory to the Roman Catholic Cemetery Brigus.
