Lillian Marie Groskopf (nee Olynyk), born on October 22, 1944, in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2025, in Newmarket, Ontario. Lillian was a beloved figure in her family and community, known for her kindness, warmth, and unwavering support of those around her.
For 25 years, Lillian served as a Word Processing Manager at Marshall Macklin Monaghan, where she skillfully oversaw a successful department before the advent of personal computers. Her dedication and expertise in her career were admired by colleagues and friends alike, reflecting her strong work ethic and commitment to excellence.
Lillian cherished spending time with her family, particularly during the holidays when she would prepare elaborate meals infused with her Ukrainian-Canadian heritage and flavors from her adopted Jamaican culture. These family gatherings were filled with laughter and love, as she always ensured that every guest felt welcome and at home. Her great sense of humor and ability to bring people together created cherished memories that will be treasured by her family for years to come.
In addition to her career and family life, Lillian had a variety of hobbies that brought her joy. Her experience as a military wife enabled Lillian to make friends wherever she went, including the many summers she and Vern spent camping across the United States and Canada, finding adventure wherever they landed. They made many lifelong friends spending winters in Florida, a time they cherished every year. Lillian often engaged in crossword puzzles, stayed in touch and navigated social media through Facebook, surfed the internet, and enjoyed playing games on her tablet. These activities kept her engaged and connected, showcasing her vibrant spirit.
Lillian is survived by her loving husband, Vernon Groskopf, her daughter Liza McLennan, her son Lance (Annette) and step-daughter Pam Durrell (Kevin, deceased). She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Cole and Mitchell McLennan, Jordan and Ryan Groskopf, Jeremy Durrell and Kristen Durrell Wills along with her great grandchildren Tanner, Brooklyn, Colter and Zayden. Lillian’s legacy continues with her sister, Carmen Chown, and brother-in-law, Ken Chown. She also leaves behind sisters-in-law Pam Forester, Olive Antonio, and brother-in-law Rene Forester, many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family who will miss her dearly.
Lillian Marie Groskopf will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her generous heart, vibrant personality, and unwavering dedication to her family and friends serve as an enduring legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family would like you to consider making a donation to the Margaret Bahen Hospice (www.myhospice.ca/donate/).
