In the fall of 1954, in Vanguard Saskatchewan, Ken and Helen Strawford welcomed their fourth child, Keith, into the world. Keith was raised on the family farm, which lead to his life-long career; in his early 20’s Keith moved to Saskatoon and enrolled in Kelsey’s farm machinery program. School was never Keith’s favourite place, so when he was offered an opportunity to work for HLS Farm Equipment in North Battleford, he left school and happily accepted. That decision led him to one of his proudest legacies, working over 50 years in the farm equipment industry. Keith started as a mechanic but quickly became the jack of all trades and spent time in parts, service and sales. Keith was born with the gift of gab and could talk to anyone about anything and what Keith loved the most about his work was it allowed him to connect with so many people. When Keith retired, he truly missed getting to chat with everyone who would come into “the shop” and it warmed his heart to hear about how many people asked his coworkers about how he was doing.
Keith’s decision to move to North Battleford for work also led him to meet the love of his life, his wife Linda Strawford. Keith knew very quickly after meeting her, that’s who he was going to marry and they spent 48 wonderful years together. Keith and Linda had two kids, Megan and Shawn. Keith adored spending time with them and was proud of them both. Shawn and his partner Crystal gave Keith the gift of being a very proud Grandpa to his granddaughter Chloe.
Keith loved North Battleford and he devoted his free time to the community through his volunteer work with the Battleford Lions Club, Battleford’s North Stars and Meota Regional Park. For over 10 years, Keith and Linda billeted for the North Stars, which gifted him with several adopted sons. He loved sitting with the boys, supporting them and giving them advice and has been thrilled seeing the fantastic men they’ve all grown into.
Keith had many hobbies, he was famous for “puttering” in his garage. During the summer he could be found camping and golfing in Meota, while in the winter he was either in the rink watching hockey or ice fishing on Jackfish Lake.
Keith was diagnosed with cancer in August 2024 and through all those challenges Keith was true to his character; he was resilient, patient, positive and kept things light with his wit. The characteristics that made it so easy to love and respect him radiated and has now created a void that will be impossible to fill. Left to cherish Keith and carry on his legacy with Linda, Megan, Shawn, Crystal and Chloe are his sisters Brenda (Eddie) Burke and Elaine (Curtis) Pohl, his brothers John (Peggy), Brian and Garth (Maureen) Strawford, his brothers-in-law Robert (Dale) and Tim Young, his numerous nieces and nephews, his cherished friends Cameron and Wendy Kaye and countless friends he’s made throughout his incredibly impactful 70 years of life.
