Obituary
HALES, James (Jim) – Peacefully surrounded by family at University Hospital on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, James Milton Hales of London age 85. Beloved husband for 60 years of Gloria. Loving father of Kristen Hales (Jeffrey Gartshore) of Belle River and Julie Hollestelle (John) of Lucan. Proud Grandpa of Matthew Gartshore and Katherine Hales and Nicholas and Cameron Hollestelle. Son of the late Milton and Gwendolyn Hales. Brother of the late Douglas and David Hales and brother-in-law of the late Lindsay Rogin (The Honourable Steven Rogin). Survived by sisters-in-law Rosemary and Angela. Also missed by several nieces and one nephew.
Jim was a stockbroker with many different firms, including Merrill Lynch, CIBC Wood Gundy, and Dean Witter Reynolds in London, and was also a chartered accountant. Jim was committed to public service. He was President of the Burlington Civitan Club, and was a director of the Elgin London Middle Lung Association, and Thames Valley Children’s Centre for many years. As a member of Rotary Club of London, he served on the board of directors for many years, and as President in 1992-1993. Jim was well known for organizing charitable events, such as the Sunshine Foundation Golf Classic, the Lung Association Golf tournaments, and many others. Jim was a longtime member at Sunningdale Golf and Country Club, and Riverbend Golf Club, and his second home was on the golf course.
Private family service at Harris Funeral Home. A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held at the Riverbend Golf and Country Club, 1200 Sandy Somerville Drive, on Monday, March 3 from 2 until 4 pm.
Memorial contributions to Shine Foundation, Lung Association, or Rotary Club of London Foundation would be appreciated.
