Obituary of Jackie Dawson Spidle
It is with heavy hearts the family shares the passing of their beloved Jackie. Jackie Dawson Spidle, 79, of Blockhouse, Lunenburg County, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, December 30, 2024, at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Bridgewater, he was the son of the late Kenneth Dawson Spidle and Myra Viola (Dorey) Ernst.
Jackie was a true jack-of-all-trades, a man of many talents and interests. If something was broken, he could fix it — whether it was a piece of machinery, an airplane, or anything in between. He, alongside his beloved wife Gene poured their hearts and souls into creating their « little piece of paradise, » a home filled with their love and a lifetime of cherished memories. He was also a passionate musician, having played bass in the band Southwind and with Ron Muise for many years. His musical talents and performances brought joy to many, playing at countless events and gatherings throughout the area.
Family was of utmost importance to Jackie and he was a man who found the greatest joy in spending time with his family. He cherished his role as a grandfather. Whether he was teaching his grandchildren life skills, sharing stories from his own childhood, or introducing them to the magic of a good bluegrass tune, Jackie’s love and guidance were constants in their lives.
Jackie is survived by his wife, Gene Margaret (Grant) Spidle; his children, Ted (Grace) Fraser, Carol Ann Demone, and Angela Fraser (Glenn Hopkins); and his grandchildren, Justin (Dacia Rankin), Glenn, Samuel, Savannah and great-grandchildren, Oliver, Eli, Ruby and Nora. He is also survived by his nieces, Michelle, Denise, Lisa, Theresa in Ontario.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Valerie Elko and first wife Sharon.
A Celebration of Life and Social for Jackie will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 35 York Street, Bridgewater. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SHAID Tree Animal Shelter or the South Shore Bluegrass Music Association. Jackie’s legacy of love, music and craftsmanship will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
