Obituary of Isabel Anne Noel
NOEL, Isabel Anne – Age 76, of Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, passed away at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater on Friday, January 24, 2025, with her husband and son by her side. ‘Izzy’ was the daughter of Leonard and Lucille Bowen-Smith of Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, wife to Baxter and mother to Marcus.
In her work life, Izzy was a Registered Nurse at the Halifax Infirmary for 18 years until moving back home to Bridgewater in 1988. After a couple of years of ‘retirement’ she took the opportunity to get into medical sales where she was the Atlantic Representative for a Quebec based company for over a decade. Never one to sit still, upon finishing her career in medical sales, Isabel worked at Pleasant Rest Home for 9 years where she was a Personal Care Worker and finishing as the Resident Care Supervisor.
Izzy was also a curling umpire for more than 20 years. She officiated at the Provincial, National and International level and was well respected in the curling community not only for her professionalism umpiring, but also simply brightening any club, ice shed or arena she entered. She was a staunch supporter of the Bridgewater Curling Club where she held various roles within the club as a member, treasurer/secretary and helped with countless fundraisers including running the Curling Club Bingo.
She had a great sense of humour and she also had the ability to chat with anyone. Everyone who had the pleasure of knowing Isabel absolutely loved her. She had so many friends who care deeply for each other. She had her ‘Card Group’ who got together regularly to drink wine, eat good food and if the cards got shuffled and dealt then that was a bonus! She cherished her time with ‘her people’ and was always wondering how everyone was doing. However, the apple of Isabel’s eye was her granddaughter, Rae. She loved her to the moon and back again and cherished her time with her always – especially Sunday dinners. The amount of love Nana had for her granddaughter was immeasurable and Rae was so fortunate to have her in her life.
Izzy was the best mother – and was a mother figure to so many. Not only was the door always open for Marcus and his friends, so were the cupboards and refrigerator. She was a fabulous cookwho loved entertaining anyone and everyone and those who were fortunate enough to sit around the dining room table for a meal still talk about it today. To experience a meal on Prince St. was always an event and Izzy loved every second of it.
Izzy’s rock was undoubtedly her husband Bax. They had an incredible bond and relationship in their over 49 years of marriage and they were truly a team. Izzy kept everything organized with the details where Baxter carried out all the tasks. In later years Bax took care of literally everything in order to ensure Izzy was comfortable and the love and appreciation she had for Baxter was always evident. The tradition of Sunday dinners will look very different now but the tradition will still live on and never be taken for granted.
Isabel, Izzy, Mom, Nana will be missed terribly and the family appreciates all of the condolences and well wishes from all family and friends. As per Isabel’s wishes, there will be no funeral service, rather a visitation and social, where friends and family can come and gather together. This will take place at Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 35 York Street, Bridgewater, on Sunday February 9th from 2-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
